MEXT(Monbukagakusho: Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan) offers two types of scholarships (Undergraduate students, College of Technology students) to Cameroonian nationals who wish to study at a Japanese institution of higher learning.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicant must
- be a Cameroonian national, and born between April 2, 1993 and April 1, 1998;
be a holder of Baccalaureates or G.C.E. Advanced Level certificate , and submit an attested copy to the Embassy of Japan in Yaounde on 11 August 2014 at latest;
- have good knowledge in English language: scoring grade A or B in the G.C.E. Ordinary Level exams for Anglophones, or “mention Bien /Très bien” in the Probatoire exams for Francophones;
- be willing to learn the Japanese language and receive education at university / college;
- leave for and arrive in Japan between 1 and 7 of April 2015.
Worth of Scholarships
- Monthly allowance
- Economy class air ticket between the international airport nearest to the applicant’s place of residence and a Japanese international airport.
- School fees
Length of Scholarships
Undergraduate students:
- 5 years from April 2015 to March 2020
- 7 years for grantees majoring in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or a six-year course in pharmacy
- Both including one-year preparatory education in the Japanese language and other subjects if necessary
College of Technology students:
- 4 years from April 2015 to March 2019
- 4.5 years for grantees majoring in maritime engineering
- Both including one-year preparatory education in the Japanese language and other subjects included
2015 Scholarships Schedule
1. Deadline of applications: at 4pm of Friday 13 June 2014 |
2. Result of documents screening : Until Monday 30 June 2014
Only the applicants who pass through the documents screening will be contacted, and the contact date will be posted on this website. |
3. Written examinations and interview :2 days between Tuesday 8 to Friday 11 July 2014 |
4. Primary screening decision notification:By the end of August 2014 |
5. Final results : Around January 2015 On 8 December 2014, the Embassy of Japan announced the final results to the candidates. |
6. Departure to Japan from Cameroon : April 2015 |

Candidates are authorized to apply for one category only.
Documents to be submitted are listed on each Application Guidelines. Cameroonian applicants are required to fill in Checklist for Cameroonian nationals, and paste it on the file cover/envelope.
