On August 28, 2024, the handover ceremony of forest monitoring equipment provided by Japan, was held at the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife of Cameroon, attended by the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife, His Excellency Ndongo Jules Doret and Mr. AOKI Shun, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Japan.

In Cameroon, deforestation due to the expansion of slash-and-burn cultivation and commercial logging is rapidly progressing in the vast forest areas which boast rich ecosystems. The Japanese government has there implemented the “Economic and Social Development Program,” a grant assistance totalling 1,2 billion FCFA, with the aim of strengthening the country's capacity for sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation. Three sets of geospatial analysis systems, four sets of power generators, and 16 vehicles for forest conservation operations were provided for this project. These supplies will be used to combat poaching, illegal deforestation, and timber smuggling, contributing to the conservation of the rich nature of the country.
