On 27 December 2024, the opening ceremony of the Grant Assistance “The Project for Improvement in Fish Landing Facility and Fish Market of Youpwe in Douala City". The ceremony saw the attendance of high-profile government officials, notably Prime Minister Dion Ngute, Representing the President H.E Paul BIYA; Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr.Taig; and the Governor of Littoral. Participants, including the local fishery men who have been eagerly waiting this day were all delighted to celebrate the opening.
With a grant aid of 1.36 billion yen (aprx. 7 billion FCFA), the fish market facilities were constructed and modernized. It aims at contributing to the improvement of the working environment for fishery workers and the quality of fishery products.
Japan has been supporting the fisheries sector of Cameroon for many years as one of its priority areas of cooperation.
