20th anniversary of the OAPI’s Denis Ekani Intellectual Property Academy

On 11 September, Ambassador MINAMI attended the Opening ceremony of a colloquium, celebrating the Denis Ekani Intellectual Property Academy’s 20th anniversary.
In his speech, the Ambassador reaffirmed the importance of intellectual property for business and innovation, as well as its commitment to developing human resources in Africa, a point also highlighted at TICAD9 held in Yokohama last August.
Through the Japan Patent Office, Japan provides voluntary contributions to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and since 2008, has been supporting the OAPI’s master’s program in Cameroon — home to the OAPI headquarters — for students from across Africa, as part of its assistance to the continent in the field of industrial property.
